EVANS YET TO FEATURE SINCE INTERNATIONALS
Northern Ireland midfielder Corry Evans is yet to feature for Blackburn Rovers since he returned from the international break. He was part of the recent Northern Ireland squad for the World Cup 2022 qualifiers played last month in the UEFA section.
The Blackburn Rovers player started the Italy game before he was replaced by fellow midfielder George Saville at the start of the second half. Hosts Italy ran out 2-0 winners in what was the opening game of the qualifiers for the two countries. Domenico Berardi and Ciro Immobile scored for the Italians in the first half as Roberto Mancini’s men started their Qatar 2022 qualifying campaign with a win.
Evans also started the friendly match with the United States before he was replaced on the hour mark by Middlesbrough player Paddy McNair on the hour mark. At that stage, the United States were leading 2-0 through goals from Borussia Dortmund youngster Gio Reyna and Chelsea attacker Christian Pulisic.
Aberdeen player Niall McGinn pulled one backfor the Northern Ireland with two minutes left but it was too little too late for the home nationto get at least a draw as the United States emerged 2-1 winners.
Corry Evans was an unused substitute for the Northern Ireland in their second game in Group C of the European section of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Without Evans on the pitch, Northern Ireland were forced to a 0-0 draw at home to Bulgaria.
Since the international break, Corry Evans has not played for the former Premier League champions. 1994/95 Premier League winners Blackburn Rovemrshave played Wycombe Wanderers (away), Bournemouth (home) and Cardiff City (away). Evans was an unused substitute for the 1-0 defeat to Wycombe game, while he was not in the squad for the Bournemouth and Cardiff City games.
