EVANS MISSES OUT ON CHAMPIONSHIP VICTORY
Blackburn Rovers midfielder Corry Evans was an obvious absentee for the club during the Championship win at the home of Preston North End on Tuesday night. Blackburn Rovers were guests of Preston North End at Deepdale in what a week 13 clash in the English Championship was, also known as the second tier of English football.
Blackburn Rovers were able to boost their promotion push with an emphatic win at the home of their opponents. The 1994/95 Premier League winners beat 10-man Preston 3-0. Preston North End had a man sent off towards the end of first half. Preston left-back Joe Rafferty was sent off in the 44th minute due to a professional foul in the box. Blackburn Rovers striker Adam Armstrong tucked away the resulting penalty to give his team a first half advantage. It was his 12th league goal of the new league season.
Adam Armstrong is the leading goalscorer in the English Championship with 12 goals in 12 games ahead of Brentford striker Ivan Toney who has 11 goals. Lucas Joao has eight goals for former league leaders Reading, while Teemu Pukki has seven goals for Norwich City. Norwich City suffered demotion from the Premier League at the end of last season.
With a man advantage, Blackburn Rovers scored two more goals in the second half through Ben Brereton and Tyrhys Dolan. The big win was enough to take Corry Evans and his Blackburn Rovers team to 12th spot on the league table, while Preston North End are three places below their opponents.
Evans has missed the last weeks as a result of injury, but Blackburn Rovers have been able to go four matches unbeaten during that time. Their last defeat was the 2-0 loss at Swansea City at the end of last month. As it stands on the Championship league table, they are five points off the last playoff spot (6th spot) currently occupied by Reading.
