Cristian Chivu is believed to have been a transfer target for Ajax
Former Inter Milan defender Cristian Chivu is believed to have been a transfer target for Ajax back in 2012.
However, the defender chose to remain at the San Siro for what turned out to be the last two years of his career. He retired in 2014 after having experienced several his including lifting the Champions League with the Italian club in 2010. The former Romanian international is regarded as one of the greatest defenders from his country and he was the guest of honour at the recent Open Day of the Amsterdammers.
Chivu spoke about his love for Dutch football and the transfer offer from Ajax almost 3 years ago. He said that the Dutch club had made an offer for him but since all parties were not fully concerned about the success of a potential deal, they backed out at the final moment.Chivu claims that he was hoping that he would have the chance to complete his career at Ajax, who are regarded as one of the top clubs in European football due to the history. He represented the club for a period of four years from 1999 to 2003. He had just moved fromUniversitatea Craiova. From his time at Ajax,Chivu moved on to clubs like Roma and Inter Milan.
“I do not actually. We were contacted and were talking to each other. When Inter made me an offer for two years and it stopped actually. Maybe we were not so convinced, both Ajax and me. I always hoped that maybe I would get the opportunity to finish my career at Ajax. It’s a shame that in the end did not come so far, but life goes on. You have to take it as it comes. I still cherish the beautiful moments I’ve had here,” said Chivu.
