2 BLACKBURN PLAYERS WHO COULD REALLY DO WITH A LOAN MOVE AWAY IN JANUARY

It has certainly been a mixed start to the Championship season for Blackburn Rovers. With six wins and six defeats from their 12 league games so far, Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side currently sit seventh in the second-tier standings. Given that record, there have been plenty of highs and lows for those at Rovers, although there are some players who will have felt little more than a great deal of frustration at how things have gone for them.

SUNDERLAND CRASH OUT OF EFL CUP

Newly promoted English Championship outfit Sunderland have crashed out of the EFL Cup at the first round stage after they were beaten by League One side Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday night. The EFL Cup is also known as the Carabao Cup and the two aforementioned teams renewed their rivalry in the competition earlier this week. Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday were in the League One together last season before the former secured promotion to the Championship. As a matter of fact, Sunderland saw off Sheffield Wednesday in the semi-finals of the League One playoffs before they secured Championship promotion by beating Wycombe Wanderers in the playoff final.

Sheffield Wednesday were able to avenge their League One playoff last four aggregate defeat at the hands of the Black Cats last season with the 2-0 win over the same team in the EFL Cup first round this season. Read more »

EVANS RETURNS TO CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL

Northern Ireland midfielder Corry Evans will return to the English Championship with his team after promotion from League One was confirmed. Corry Evans was part of the Sunderland team that won promotion to the Championship by winning the League One playoff final at the expense of Wycombe Wanderers.


Corry Evansleft Championship side Blackburn Rovers last summer at the end of his contract with the former Premier League champions. He had spent many years at Blackburn Rovers before leaving the club at the end of last season. Evans signed a two-year contract when he joined Sunderland on a free transfer shortly after his Blackburn Rovers spell ended. He has the option of a third year. Read more »

EVANS LEADS SUNDERLAND BACK TO CHAMPIONSHIP

Sunderland are back in the English Championship after they won the League One playoff final. The Black Cats sealed a return to the second tier of English club football by beating Wycombe Wanderers 2-0 in their playoff final. Sunderland saw off Sheffield Wednesday in the playoff semifinals via a 2-1 aggregate win to book their place in the final, while Wycombe Wanderers got the better of MK Dons to secure their place in the playoff final via a 2-1 aggregate win as well.


Club skipper Corry Evans was an influential figure as the Black Cats beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 at home in the first leg of their semifinal tie before playing 1-1 in the away leg to secure a final berth. Wycombe Wanderers beat ten-men MK Dons 2-0 at home in the first leg of their semifinal tie  before their place in the final was assured despite losing the second leg 1-0. Read more »

EVANS SUBBED ON DURING WIMBLEDON DRAW

Sunderland skipper Corry Evans was left on the bench by new manager Alex Neil for the away game against 10-man AFC Wimbledon in League One when the two teams faced off against each other last weekend. Corry Evans was introduced into the game just past the hour mark and he still managed to collect a yellow card as the two teams settled for a 1-1 draw.

Hosts AFC Wimbledon took the lead in the 20th minute through English midfielder Luke McCormick. Via a spot kick. Sunderland took 15 minutes to find the equaliser to ensure that the two teams went into the break on level terms. Ex-Huddersfield Town playmaker Alex Pritchard was responsible for the goal scored by the Black Cats with ten first half minutes left on the clock. The strike from Pritchard made it two goals in two league games for the midfielder.

EVANS, OTHERS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE

Sunderland manager Lee Johnson has stayed that Corry Evans and two others are well ahead of schedule as they close in on returning to full fitness. In his latest update on the injury victims in his team, the Sunderland boss said that Denver Hume, Corry Evans and Dennis Cirkin are all nearing full fitness after their recent spell on the sidelines. According to him, all the three players were involved in a light training session at the Academy of Light on Wednesday morning thus providing the Black Cats with a big boost ahead of the festive period fixtures.

The Black Cats are back in form after their  recent poor form but injuries continue to affect the Lee Johnson-led team negatively and the latest update on club skipper Corry Evans, Denver Hume and Dennis Cirkin is a big boost. EVANS TIPS RONALDO FOR PREMIER LEAGUE GOLDEN BOOT

With Cristiano Ronaldo set to make his second debut for Manchester United on Saturday afternoon against Newcastle United at Old Trafford, he has been tipped to end the season as the league’s top scorer. Ronaldo has already missed three league games for United because he was still at Juventus during that period but according to former Premier League player Corry Evans, that cannot stop him from not being among the goals every week. Manchester United confirmed that they agreed a deal with Italian Serie A giants Juventus for the transfer of the Portugal international superstar and it is still the talk of not o ly the country but the whole world.

Ronaldo finished last season as the top scorer in the Italian Serie A and Romelu Lukaku came second after a blistering campaign for eventual title winners Inter Milan. The two players have now switched leagues in their careers and are now both in the Premier League, meaning that there are two more players who will be challenging for the Premier League golden boot at the end of the season. EVANS LINKED WITH TWO CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS

Northern Ireland international Corry Evans is a free agent after his contract with English Championship giants Blackburn Rovers ran out at the end of last month. Corry Evans is without a club meaning that he’s free to sign for any club. The Northern Ireland midfielder has been linked with two English Championship clubs namely Stoke City and Welsh club Cardiff City in this summer’s transfer window.

Football Insider confirmed the interest of both Stoke City and Cardiff City in Corry Evans. He has been a target for the Potters since Michael O’Neill became their manager almost two years ago. Evans was a regular in the Northern Ireland starting XI while O’Neill was in charge of the team for several years. The midfielder has been linked with a move to Stoke City since the start of the winter transfer window last year.

EVANS MISSES OUT ON NI GAMES

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Corry Evans was recently left out of the Northern Ireland (NI) squad for the international friendlies against Malta and Ukraine. He was one of the major absentees after manager Ian Baraclough named the squad for the two friendly games.

Corry Evans missed the two matches alongside brother Jonny Evans who was left out of the Northern Ireland squad because of injury. The Leicester City centre back missed the last three league matches of the recently concluded Premier League season as his club narrowly missed out on Champions League football.

Northern Ireland midfielder Corry Evans is yet to feature for Blackburn Rovers since he returned from the international break. He was part of the recent Northern Ireland squad for the World Cup 2022 qualifiers played last month in the UEFA section.
